In the Blink of an Eye

We have all heard the expression, life can change in the blink of an eye. And for Christine, that couldn’t be more true. At 18, like many girls, Christine was a young women filled with excitement and hope and her life was going in the direction her and her family had prayed for. She was well taken care of as a child and raised by both of her parents, which is something many African girls dream of. To top it off, she was also now set to be married to a wonderful man.

Her future husband was from another province and wanted the marriage to take place there, so in preparation for the wedding, he went ahead of Christine and headed back home.

A week later, along with her parents & family friends, Christine headed out on a journey that would change her life forever. Unfortunately, not in the way she had hoped, dreamed of or ever imagined.

Along the way, their vehicle was met and stopped by a large group of heavily armed military. The men in her vehicle were removed and robbed of everything they had on them. The women, including Christine, were taken into the bush and repeatedly & violently raped by these awful men. It turns out, they were not military, they were rebels.

Eventually, after what we can only imagine felt like an eternity, real military personal showed up and chased these men away and the women were able to escape.

They made their way back home, broken and battered. After arriving home and sharing her vicious attack with her finance, her heart was shattered even further, when he rejected her and told her the wedding was off and that he wanted nothing to do with her ever again.  In the blink of an eye, Christine’s life was turned upside down and everything changed.

Fortunately, thanks to our HOH staff, Christian’s guidance and our wonderful sponsors, Christine has been given a second chance and is working through her pain and grief and is on her way to healing. She has received $500 to start a business and is also a recipient of the Tumaini Project.

Christine’s story is an example of how quickly life can change, but also that we can never give up. Join us in continuing to pray for Christine for healing and for success with her new business opportunity.
