One Donation Changed Five (or 6!) Lives Forever
A Generous Gift
One day, a compassionate sponsor called and asked, “What is the biggest need?”
The answer was a few things, but one project stood out to him: street kids. Without hesitation, the sponsor asked how much it would take to make a difference for some kids living on the street in DR Congo. He gave a generous donation to help five urgent cases of children off the streets immediately:
- Eliya, 16 years old: Born to a military father who died, Eliya lived with his mother until she abandoned him at the age of 12. He then found himself living on the streets.
- Mastaki, 10 years old: He never knew his father and was born just after his parents separated. He lived with his mother, but both were begging on the street. At the age of eight, he left and joined the street.
- Gabriel, 8 years old: Gabriel was abandoned by his parents and found himself on the street with no one to care for him.
- Providence, 13 years old: Providence does not know his father and lived with a man who abused him. Due to the suffering he endured, he ran away.
- Ushindi, 14 years old: Ushindi lost his parents in an accident when he was ten and ended up joining a group of children and teens living on the streets.
The sponsor made a generous donation toward these children, and we sent the money to our team in DR Congo.
The Plan in Motion
Pastor Ephrem in DR Congo received the funds and immediately set to work. The money was used for new foam mattresses, school uniforms and supplies, shoes, backpacks, and even a small business setup for each child to sell charcoal after school to help them earn money for themselves.
The sponsor received updates from Pastor Ephrem. The first report detailed the successful placement of five children into welcoming families. The transformation was incredible. The children, once living on the streets, were now in safe, loving homes, equipped with school supplies and the opportunity to start a small business.
A Successful Mission
Pastor Ephrem sent us updates, sharing stories of training potential foster families and registering the children for school. The impact of the sponsor’s generosity was evident in the smiles and hope of the children. When the pictures below were sent to the sponsor, he cried.
Yes, this one donation changed the lives of those five street kids... but we wonder if it also changed a sixth life... the sponsor.
