When a Sponsor Said Yes Before Knowing the Need
God is always working and he knows what is going to happen. Sometimes all he needs is for us to “say yes”. Here is a prime example that just happened today:
Yesterday, I received this email from a sponsor:
“I would like to sponsor an additional child starting this September. If there is a little girl between ages 8-12, I would love to sponsor her. However, if there is a child in desperate need of sponsorship, I’d be happy to support.”
As soon as I read her email, I thought of Divine.
Just the day before, I had shared on social media about the urgent situation of a 10-year-old girl. Little did I know that God was already working behind the scenes.
Divine’s Urgent Situation
Divine and her baby brother, Bienvenu, are homeless because of their mother’s alcoholism and abandonment.
These two children have been doing all they can to survive in a rural area of Rwanda. A generous farmer is allowing them to sleep in his barn with his livestock so they aren’t sleeping on the street.
Pastor Sarah and the local church have been helping whenever they can, providing food and support, but the situation remains difficult.
When I shared their story on social media, I hoped it would reach people who could help. Unfortunately, Facebook barely pushed the post out, and it seemed like almost no one saw it. I was disappointed because in the past, a post like this got almost instant sponsorship.
God Was Already Working
As a Christian organization, we believe in prayer. When that sponsor’s email arrived in my inbox, I couldn’t help but marvel at the timing.
What were the chances that someone would reach out looking for a girl exactly in Divine’s age range just one day after I had shared her story?
It wasn’t just a coincidence… it was orchestrated by our amazing God.
A Second Surprise
Then something even more beautiful happened.
After receiving Divine’s information, the sponsor thanked me, then asked if Divine’s brother needed sponsorship as well. She said that her mother would like to sponsor Bienvenu.
And just like that, both children were now sponsored.
What looked hopeless only yesterday, was now a done deal.
A Future Filled With Hope
Because of these caring sponsors and the support of the local church, Divine and Bienvenu will receive food, care, and ongoing support. We will work with the church to find a loving Christian family who can welcome them into their home, and we will enroll Divine in school so she can continue her education (so important!)
Their story isn’t over, but today they have something they didn’t have before:Â Hope.
I am continually amazed by the way God works through ordinary people who simply choose to say “yes.”
A sponsor sends an email.
A mother decides to help.
A church steps forward.
And two children realize that they are not forgotten and alone. God cares for them and hears their prayers.
Thank you to every sponsor who chooses to change a child’s story. You may never fully know the impact of your generosity, but stories like Divine and Bienvenu’s remind us that God can use one simple “yes” to transform a child’s future.
