DID YOU KNOW: LIVE BABIES ARE BEING THROWN AWAY IN THE GARBAGE DUMPS IN AFRICA?
When we heard of the horror of babies being thrown into the 30-acre dump in Nairobi, Kenya we HAD to do something. We started with hiring staff who would patrol the dump at peak times when many desperately poor women throw away their living babies. Luckily we did rescue some but unfortunately we weren't able to save them all.
As a preventative measure, we have 3 signs - one at each entrance of the dump - saying "Don't Throw Away Your Baby! We Can Help!"
These signs have prompted countless women to call. After years of having these signs up,
we get 10-15 calls every day!
And because of it, we have reached hundreds of women and hundreds more babies.
Just having these three signs up costs approx $1,200 per year, plus medical expenses for mothers, sponsorship support for children, food and vitamins for mothers during pregnancy, counseling, emergency assistance, and more.
What began as a way to prevent babies from being abandoned has grown into a ministry that walks alongside pregnant teens and young mothers as they face some of the most difficult circumstances of their lives.
Since we get many calls a day we need funds to help each caller- we don't want to turn anyone away.
The 4 ways that we can help these pregnant teens and young women (Average ages are 14-23):
Weekly Counseling Sessions:
Every young mother's story is different, and many are carrying heavy burdens or facing heartbreaking situations including family rejection, homelessness, grief, abuse or extreme poverty. Through counseling, group conversations, shared experiences, and a safe place to talk, we want each girl to know she is not alone. Our goal is to offer encouragement, guidance, and hope. With the support, they are learning how to care for and raise their babies with confidence.
Resources:
Donations help us respond when a young mom needs something urgently. One may need diapers or food, while another may need help with rent, personal items, or the cost of a hospital visit. These practical gifts bring real relief and help mothers care for themselves and their babies.
Practical Skills Training:
With sewing machines and tailoring instruction, young mothers are learning valuable skills that can help them build a better future for themselves and their children. They are learning how to measure, cut fabric, sew, and finish projects while developing patience, confidence, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. They are creating baby clothing, bags, purses, aprons, and more. Each finished project represents far more than a new skill. It represents courage, renewed confidence, and the possibility of earning income to help support their new family.
Pray:
Your prayers mean so much. Please pray that each young mother would find strength, healing, and hope as she walks her own journey. Most of all, pray that she would know the love of Jesus.
Your support reminds them that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.
Together, we can help young mothers meet essential childcare and nutritional needs, gain practical life and vocational skills, receive mentorship and emotional support, and build brighter futures for themselves and their children.
Together, we can help create stronger families and brighter futures.
