More Than a Gift: Delivering Love to Twins in Kenya

More Than a Gift: Delivering Love to Twins in Kenya

One of the most beautiful parts of child sponsorship is that it often grows into something much deeper than financial support. Over time, sponsors build relationships, earn trust, and connect with children across continents.

For Maya and Naya at the Dream Centre in Kenya, that's exactly what happened.

Their sponsors in Canada have "adopted" these two precious girls as if they were their own grandchildren. Through regular Zoom meet-and-greets and thoughtful gifts, they have created a relationship that goes far beyond sponsorship.

When I traveled to Kenya in April 2026, I had the privilege of bringing gift bags from these wonderful Canadian "grandparents" to Maya and Naya.

More Than a Gift, A Promise Kept

What made these gifts especially meaningful was the story behind them.

During an earlier Zoom call, the sponsors showed the girls a pair of stuffed animals they had purchased just for them. To make Maya and Naya laugh, they playfully "walked" the stuffies across the screen and promised that one day the girls would receive them.

A few months later, I placed those very same stuffed animals into the girls' hands.

It seemed like a small moment, but it carried great significance.

The stuffies represented more than a gift. They represented a promise kept.

Children remember when people follow through. By keeping their promise, these sponsors showed Maya and Naya that they could trust them. That simple act strengthened a relationship that continues to grow across thousands of miles.

The Joy of Being Remembered

The second surprise included beautiful princess dresses.

As soon as Maya and Naya saw them, they could hardly contain their excitement. Of course, they immediately slipped them on and proudly showed everyone.

I then read the sponsors' letter and showed the girls the photo they had sent. Big smiles quickly filled the room.

Watching them enjoy those special gifts reminded me that sponsorship means so much more than meeting practical needs. Sponsorship helps children feel valued, remembered, and loved.

For Maya and Naya, the gifts served as tangible reminders that someone on the other side of the world knows their names, thinks about them, prays for them, and genuinely cares about their lives.

More Than a Gift, It's Connection

What a privilege it was to deliver not only gifts, but the love behind them.

Stories like this remind us that child sponsorship changes lives in both directions. Children receive encouragement, support, and hope for the future. Sponsors experience the joy of investing in a child's life and building meaningful relationships that last for years.

Sometimes love creates family across any distance.

Sometimes family grows through love, commitment, and a decision to walk alongside a child, no matter the distance.

This Christmas, consider sending a special gift to your sponsored child or contributing toward a Christmas gift for a child in our care. Your generosity creates moments of joy, reminds children that they are loved, and makes the season unforgettable.

Because sometimes a Christmas gift is more than a gift. It reminds a child that someone knows them, remembers them, and deeply loves them.
