A few years ago, three young men living in one of Kenya's slums made a life-changing decision. They gave their lives to Jesus and chose to leave behind the destructive paths that had defined much of their lives. They committed themselves to living differently, not only for their own future but also for the good of those around them.
A Canadian on a Home of Hope team saw their desire to change and believed in them. As a simple act of encouragement, he gave them money for 3 pigs to help them start a small farming project.
He suggested the group be called MV3 which stands for "Men of Vision, Men of Value, and Men of Virtue". They agreed and have been "living" it out ever since.
You'll never guess what happens next.
The three young men worked tirelessly to grow the project. As the pigs bred and the project expanded, they intentionally reached back into their community, inviting vulnerable children and street-connected youth to become part of what they were building!
Rather than allowing other young people to follow the same difficult path they had once known, they chose to create opportunities for them.
Today, what began with three pigs has grown into a thriving initiative involving 83 people and caring for more than 60 pigs!
The project has also expanded to include chickens and several other small-scale farming activities.
Lives are being transformed from the simple gift of 3 pigs and a belief that they could be men of vision, value and virtue.
Children who once spent their days on the streets are learning practical skills, developing responsibility, building healthy relationships, and discovering that they have value and a bright future.
For their safety and privacy, we are not sharing their identities.
We are incredibly proud of these three men. They did not simply accept a helping hand. They allowed God to transform their own lives first, and then they chose to extend the transformation to street kids needing someone to believe in them too.
When a few lives are changed, an entire community can begin to change.
This is far more than a farming project. It is a story of a community being transformed from the inside out.
This is the Gospel of Jesus in action.
